IPS officer requests women not to visit alone

LUCKNOW: Following rape charges, inspector general (civil defence) Amitabh Thakur on Wednesday put up a notice outside his office located in Jawahar Bhawan, requesting women not to visit him unaccompanied.

Thakur has been accused by a Ghaziabad-based woman of raping her at his Viram Khand located residence in Lucknow recently. The woman, instead of approaching the police, sent the complaint to chief of state's women commission alleging that IPS officer's wife Nutan Thakur did not intervene when she was confined and raped by the officer.

Thakur said he has put up the notice outside his office and installed CCTV camera at his residence as a precautionary measure and to save himself from people who may make such false charges in future.

Thakur, and his RTI activist wife Nutan along with a group of some activists also staged a sit-in in near GPO and demanded CBI probe into the allegations against him. They pointed fingers at UP mining minister Gayatri Prajapati and alleged that SP leader may have a role in the entire controversy. The couple had made recently lodged complaint with the Lokayukta regarding alleged wrongdoings and presence of syndicate in the mining contracts.
