Lucknow, Thursday, 09 October 2025 — A detailed formal complaint has been filed by Lucknow ( UP ) based transparency and human rights activist Sanjay Sharma against Salman Khan and the makers of Bigg Boss 19, accusing the show and its host of persistent bias, nepotism, disrespect for religious and regional sentiments, and multiple violations of Indian constitutional and broadcasting laws. The complaint, rooted firmly in extensive documentation, highlights a pattern of favoritism towards Muslim contestants, particularly Amaal Mallik, while Hindu participants such as Abhishek Bajaj, Mridul Tiwari, Ashnoor Kaur, and Pranit More are subjected to disproportionate criticism and humiliation.
The complaint details on-air religious insensitivity including disrespectful conduct such as wearing shoes inside temple-themed sets and objectionable remarks, which potentially breach the Indian Penal Code and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. These actions reflect negligence towards communal harmony as well as failure to uphold established legal and constitutionally guaranteed rights.
The charges extend to violations under the Cable Television Networks Regulation Act, 1995, and Articles 14, 15, 19, and 21 of the Constitution of India, safeguarding equality, non-discrimination, freedom of speech with reason, and dignity. The complaint draws on key Supreme Court precedents mandating strict regulation against content promoting communal disharmony or religious and regional insult.
Sanjay Sharma has submitted this complaint to several key authorities demanding prompt regulatory action, including the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Broadcasting Content Complaints Council (BCCC), National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), the Office of the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mumbai Police, Commissioner of Police Mumbai, Colors TV — Viacom 18 Media Pvt. Ltd., and Endemol India Private Limited.
The relief sought includes a full regulatory inquiry using unedited footage, immediate interim suspension of Salman Khan as host pending completion of investigation, issuance of show-cause notices, initiation of prosecution under relevant legal frameworks including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Cable TV Act, and the framing of mandatory guidelines to prevent recurrence of communal, regional and discriminatory bias in reality TV programming.
The complaint follows growing nationwide public outrage on social media, with viewers and critics sharply divided over allegations of manipulation, unfair hosting, and selective reprisal favoring certain contestants. The ongoing controversy challenges the long-standing reputation of the reality show and its host for impartiality and ethical conduct.
Sanjay Sharma’s proactive leadership in this matter underscores urgent imperatives for transparency, fairness, and strict compliance with constitutional morality and broadcasting standards. This case highlights the growing demand for quality and accountability in Indian television content to protect communal harmony and uphold viewer dignity.
