Lucknow Activist Sanjay Sharma Seeks FIR Over AI Video of Yogi Adityanath Displayed by Akhilesh Yadav at Press Conference
Complaint alleges derogatory portrayal of Yogi Adityanath raises questions over religious sentiment, political speech and accountability for AI-generated content
LUCKNOW, September 2, 2026 ………. Lucknow-based social activist Sanjay Sharma has approached the Police Commissioner, Lucknow Police Commissionerate, seeking registration of a First Information Report and a detailed investigation into an AI generated video displayed publicly by Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav during a press conference in Lucknow on August 31.
The complaint centres on a video in which a digitally generated portrayal resembling Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is shown smoking a chillum, accompanied by satirical and derogatory imagery and lyrics. News reports have confirmed that Yadav displayed the video during the press conference. According to which, Yadav said the video had been sent or given to him by someone .
Sharma's complaint asks investigators to establish who created the video, who supplied it to Yadav, how it was transmitted and who authorised its public display and subsequent circulation.
A prominent feature of Sharma's complaint is its demand for a forensic examination of the digital trail. He has urged police to identify the software or platform used to generate the material, preserve the original file and associated metadata, examine relevant electronic devices and communications, and trace the chain of transmission from the creator to its eventual public display.
Sharma, who is a leading legal-rights, human-rights, RTI and social activist in India, is also known in social-work circle by the nickname “Bunty” and is famous for his public role as that of a campaigner against irregularities in society.
In his complaint, Sharma says the portrayal has deeply hurt his religious sentiments. He argues that the issue extends beyond political satire because Adityanath is also publicly associated with the Gorakhnath Math and the Hindu monastic tradition.
The complaint refers principally to Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which criminalises deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage the religious feelings of a class by insulting religion or religious beliefs through words, visible representations or electronic means. Sharma has additionally requested investigation under Sections 196, 353 and 356 BNS and any other provisions that investigators find applicable. Section 356 concerns defamation, including imputations made through visible representations.
Sharma has requested that police record the statements of Yadav and others involved in the press conference, preserve CCTV and audiovisual recordings, identify the creators and distributors of the video, and secure relevant electronic evidence before it can be deleted or altered.
For Sharma, the issue is accountability. His complaint seeks to move the controversy from political exchange to an evidence-based legal inquiry with investigators being asked to determine not merely who displayed the video, but who created it, supplied it, transmitted it and authorised its dissemination.
The police response to Sharma's complaint will determine whether the allegations proceed to a formal criminal investigation.

लखनऊ के सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता संजय शर्मा ने पुलिस आयुक्त, लखनऊ पुलिस कमिश्नरेट को शिकायत भेजकर प्रथम सूचना रिपोर्ट, एफआईआर, दर्ज करने और विस्तृत जांच की मांग की है। यह शिकायत उस एआई निर्मित वीडियो को लेकर है, जिसे समाजवादी पार्टी के अध्यक्ष अखिलेश यादव ने 31 अगस्त को लखनऊ में आयोजित एक प्रेस कॉन्फ्रेंस के दौरान सार्वजनिक रूप से प्रदर्शित किया था।
शिकायत का केंद्र वह वीडियो है, जिसमें डिजिटल तकनीक से तैयार एक व्यक्ति को उत्तर प्रदेश के मुख्यमंत्री योगी आदित्यनाथ के समान दिखाया गया है और उसे चिलम पीते हुए प्रदर्शित किया गया है। वीडियो में व्यंग्यात्मक और कथित रूप से आपत्तिजनक चित्रण तथा गीत भी शामिल हैं। समाचार रिपोर्टों के अनुसार, अखिलेश यादव ने प्रेस कॉन्फ्रेंस के दौरान यह वीडियो प्रदर्शित किया था। रिपोर्टों के मुताबिक, यादव ने कहा था कि यह वीडियो उन्हें किसी व्यक्ति द्वारा भेजा या दिया गया था।
संजय शर्मा की शिकायत में जांच एजेंसियों से यह पता लगाने की मांग की गई है कि वीडियो किसने बनाया, इसे अखिलेश यादव तक किसने पहुंचाया, किस माध्यम से इसका प्रसारण हुआ तथा इसके सार्वजनिक प्रदर्शन और बाद में प्रसार की अनुमति किसने दी।
शिकायत का एक महत्वपूर्ण हिस्सा डिजिटल साक्ष्यों की फॉरेंसिक जांच की मांग है। शर्मा ने पुलिस से वीडियो तैयार करने में इस्तेमाल किए गए सॉफ्टवेयर या प्लेटफॉर्म की पहचान करने, मूल वीडियो और उससे संबंधित मेटाडाटा को सुरक्षित रखने, संबंधित इलेक्ट्रॉनिक उपकरणों और संचार रिकॉर्ड की जांच करने तथा वीडियो के निर्माता से लेकर उसके सार्वजनिक प्रदर्शन तक की पूरी डिजिटल कड़ी का पता लगाने का अनुरोध किया है।
संजय शर्मा एक लब्धप्रतिष्ठित कानूनी अधिकार, मानवाधिकार, आरटीआई और सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता के रूप में विख्यात हैं। सामाजिक कार्यों से जुड़े लोगों के बीच उन्हें उनके उपनाम “बंटी” से भी जाना जाता है। वह समाज में व्याप्त अनियमितताओं के खिलाफ अभियान चलाने वाले सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता के रूप में भी जाने जाते हैं।
अपनी शिकायत में शर्मा ने कहा है कि उक्त चित्रण से उनकी धार्मिक भावनाएं गहराई से आहत हुई हैं। उनका कहना है कि यह मामला केवल राजनीतिक व्यंग्य तक सीमित नहीं है, क्योंकि योगी आदित्यनाथ का सार्वजनिक रूप से गोरखनाथ मठ और हिंदू संन्यासी एवं मठ परंपरा से भी संबंध है।
शिकायत में मुख्य रूप से भारतीय न्याय संहिता, 2023 की धारा 299 का उल्लेख किया गया है, जो किसी वर्ग की धार्मिक भावनाओं को जानबूझकर और दुर्भावनापूर्ण तरीके से आहत करने के उद्देश्य से धर्म या धार्मिक मान्यताओं का अपमान करने से संबंधित है, जिसमें शब्दों, दृश्य प्रस्तुतियों अथवा इलेक्ट्रॉनिक माध्यमों का उपयोग भी शामिल है। शर्मा ने इसके अतिरिक्त बीएनएस की धाराओं 196, 353 और 356 तथा जांच के दौरान लागू होने वाली अन्य धाराओं के तहत भी जांच की मांग की है। धारा 356 मानहानि से संबंधित है, जिसमें दृश्य प्रस्तुतियों के माध्यम से किए गए कथित आरोप भी शामिल हैं।
शर्मा ने पुलिस से अखिलेश यादव तथा प्रेस कॉन्फ्रेंस से जुड़े अन्य व्यक्तियों के बयान दर्ज करने, कार्यक्रम की सीसीटीवी फुटेज और ऑडियो-विजुअल रिकॉर्डिंग सुरक्षित रखने, वीडियो के निर्माताओं और प्रसारकों की पहचान करने तथा संबंधित इलेक्ट्रॉनिक साक्ष्यों को सुरक्षित रखने का अनुरोध किया है, ताकि उन्हें हटाया या बदला न जा सके।
शर्मा के लिए इस पूरे मामले का प्रमुख मुद्दा जवाबदेही है। उनकी शिकायत राजनीतिक आरोप-प्रत्यारोप से आगे बढ़कर साक्ष्य आधारित कानूनी जांच की मांग करती है। इसमें जांचकर्ताओं से केवल यह पता लगाने की मांग नहीं की गई है कि वीडियो किसने प्रदर्शित किया, बल्कि यह भी पता लगाने को कहा गया है कि इसे किसने बनाया, किसने उपलब्ध कराया, किस माध्यम से प्रसारित किया और इसके सार्वजनिक प्रसार को किसने अधिकृत किया।
अब पुलिस की ओर से की जाने वाली कार्रवाई यह निर्धारित करेगी कि शिकायत में लगाए गए आरोप औपचारिक आपराधिक जांच के स्तर तक पहुंचते हैं या नहीं।
